Map Evaluation

This map from South Carolina was well designed. I think it used the white space cleverly with how it positioned the title and other map elements. The zones are clearly designed and the map effectively communicates what areas are managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. There is minimal crap, maximum information at minimum cost, and the information is substantial. This map below of the U.S. capitals population is rather poorly designed. It's difficult to assign a geographic location to the capitals that have large populations, due to the poor placement of the symbols. And excluding Alaska and Hawaii make this a contiguous map of the U.S., so the title is inaccurate. It isn't effectively labeled, there's no harmony with the hierarchy, and there's minimum information at maximum cost.

Orientation - GIS 5100

Hi everyone! My name is Shawn. I joined this program to help further my career in GIS. So far, I've mostly worked for different levels of government in Florida. Recently, I made the move into telecommunications, specifically helping rural areas improve their internet access. I love GIS for the flexibility in work it provides. I want to get into GIS management so I can continue to give me even more ability to switch between fields. My updated Orientation Storymap:
